Closed-captioned Videos About the Use of Anti-Lock
Braking Systems (ABS) Now Available
Special Project Builds Upon Alliance's Mission of
Consumer Education
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., December 20, 2000 The
ABS Education Alliance's training videotape about the effective use of 4-wheel
anti-lock braking systems (ABS) is available in VHS closed caption format.
The tape provides instruction in the proper method to activate and
use the system now installed on many popular model cars and light trucks.
Approximately one in three passenger vehicles on United States and Canadian
roads is equipped with the ABS technology. The six-and-a-half minute
video is suitable for novice driver instruction or improving-driver classroom
use. It contains footage of drivers using the emergency stopping technology and
trying a panic stop with the ABS system deactivated. Drivers provide
testimonials about their successful use of ABS to avoid crashes. The
tape supplements the ABS Education Alliance's consumer brochures and its
comprehensive, turnkey 45-minute classroom session curriculum. The curriculum
includes instructional narrative, pre- and post-tests, teacher keys, and
four-color overhead transparencies.
The Alliance makes the curriculum available in hard copy form and
also downloadable from its Web site, www.abs-education.org. A hard copy of the
curriculum is priced at $39.95, including shipping and handling. The
ABS brochures, in English and Spanish language versions, are available in
quantity at no charge. The brochures are posted on the Web site. The
ABS closed caption tape is $7.95 each, including shipping and handling. For ten
or more tapes, the closed caption tape is $3.50 each, including shipping and
handling. The ABS Education Alliance was established in 1995 to
educate the driving public about the benefits and effective use of anti-lock
braking systems, a technology which, when activated, prevents wheels from
locking up and allows the driver to maintain steering control of his or her
vehicle. For more information or for order forms for the tapes,
curriculum, or brochures, consult the Alliance Web site, www.abs-education.org,
or call Alliance headquarters, 919/549-4800.
